2010 District of Columbia Award for Excellence in Historic Preservation
Diane Tamayo, President of The Methodist Cemetery Association, and John Schwartz, widower of the late Audrey Schwartz, former president, will be recognized for their extraordinary commitment to restoring and maintaining the Cemetery, an important historic Tenleytown site. The Cemetery is listed in the DC Inventory of Historic Sites and the National Register of Historic Places. Tenleytown Historical Society submitted the nomination. The awards ceremony will be held on November 4th.

Garden Club of America Entrance Markers
In 1932-33, as part of the George Washington Bicentennial celebration, The Garden Club of America erected pairs of stone markers at six entrances to the city. The pair at Wisconsin and Western Avenues at Friendship Heights is still in place. During construction on the site, the marker on the northwest corner was removed for safekeeping. The site’s developer, Boston Properties, cleaned the marker and recently reinstalled it with a protective fence and planting. The Friendship Heights markers and the other extant markers were added to the DC Inventory of Historic Sites in 2008.
